Interview to Leopoldo María Panero. No man is an island
2011/2012_18 min
The video-interview to the Spanish poet Leopoldo María Panero continues the project started in Italy with the poetess Alda Merini. The search for the boundary between poetry and madness, understood as a creative force, is answered in the words of the international literary characters, who have lived experience of the asylum. For Panero, as Alda Merini, many in the past have come to rely on a Nobel nomination, never arrived, no one can say whether discrimination against them. Panero has lived for 8 years in Las Palmas, an island so far from his native land. At home he had spent the previous 14 years in the asylum of Mondragon. Filming in Las Palmas, in the form of experimental documentary, lasted two days. A short term to describe a mind so complex, but the short time we had is one of the keys to understanding the material assembled. The meeting, almost unplanned, enforced within certain limits of space/time, take the traits of an impromptu performance, where the poetic sentiment reveals and conceals, according to the mood of the protagonist. The video, even when mounted, can not follow a linear direction, and the portrait that emerges of the Spanish poet is faithful to the experience with him. An alternating rhythm, made of shots and answers with literary quotations in French, Italian, English, seamlessly. A man of great charm, Leopoldo María Panero passes from laughter to anger, to powerful gestures, as if he want to reaffirm, in the behavior, the expressionism of his works.

Interview to Alda Merini
2009_8:43 min
Video-interview to Alda Merini, part of the project that research the line between poetry and madness, understood as a creative force, and lives through the words of literary characters who have lived experience of asylum. A lucid soul, that can communicate wisdom to anyone who gets in listening. The interview was filmed at the home of the italian poet, in Navigli canals, Milan. The thoughts of a poetical soul ranging from religion to contemporary society.

YermaS
2011_29:31 min_short version 10 min
Independent film which is a tribute to the controversial female Federico García Lorca character Yerma. Filmed in both Belgium and Italy, performed by the belgian butoh theatre's performer, Lies Serdons, the project want to tell the tale of Yerma’s manifest musings and interior monologues in visual terms. Originally conceived and directed by Tommaso Pedone as a contemporary art mix, it ties the dramatic silence and spirituality of Japanese Butoh theatre to Lorca’s expressive Spanish warmth, at the same time eliminating socio-geographic references to get to the core poetics expressed as universal images. The difference from Lorca lies in the paradoxical image of the protagonist’s “impossible” pregnancy. Yerma wants the child which she is already expecting, asking for that which she already has. In a growing momentum of wishes and images of her desire, the central thesis of the film unfolds. The intimate drama of the Spanish writer for the director becomes a contemporary metaphor: woman, "all-powerful mother" of humankind, expresses her natural drive to give birth, whilst at the same her modern sensibilities prevent her from noticing that Life is all around, both within and without, trapped, as we all are, by the unending search for the idea of desire itself.

La metamorfosi di Narciso
2011_00:20 min (loop)
Revisiting the myth of Narcissus, the video focuses on the combination of myth/reality, past/present, nature/industry. The screen is split in two parts, a tribute to Salvador Dalí, referenced in the title. The attraction for the superficial beauty of things, depicted on the left by a classic iconography of Narcissus, contrasts with the representation on the right of the screen, where a different Narcissus, no longer young, is played by a homeless. The metamorphosis is a natural transformation, the transition from the western standard of living from the Eighties to the present day. The ideal green landscape with the boy at the center can't be reflected in the hard concrete, leading the narcissistic individualism to the limits of nichilism. The displacement of the contemporary human being, under the weight of internal frustration, returns cyclically between past, present and future, like a snake biting its own tail. Narcissus seeks the meaning in its continuous revival. The gesture of waking of the characters, like a mantra, goes away by the appearance of things and becomes research, meditation ad infinitum.
