B2B Festival - Barcelona to Berlín

International electronic music and mixed media festival featuring artists from Berlin and Barcelona

What is the B2B Festival – Barcelona <> Berlin?
The B2B project ‘B2B Festival – Berlin to Barcelona’ first emerged in 2008. It was conceived both as a platform for music groups and artists working with new technologies to show their work, and as a means for two multidisciplinary art venues, Piatto Forte in Berlin and Antic Teatre in Barcelona, to realise and produce various projects.
Support is given to artists of all ages: they may be emerging and unknown, or have long-running careers, but they share a difficulty in finding outlets for their work on existing, conventional music circuits and festivals. Each artist develops his or her own line in research on sounds, programmes, video creation, and so on, working outside commercial and established parameters. We select live acts and DJ sets in experimental music, dance, Electro, Electro-punk and visual arts in order to give these artists visibility and establish a regular exchange between the two cities.

Why Berlin?
Because Berlin is happening. At the moment, Berlin is the most dynamic and lively city with regard to all art sectors. Artists in Berlin have a wealth of possibilities for realising and exhibiting their work that is way above what is available in any other European city. Also, Berlin is still economically accessible to artists of all social backgrounds. The city is full of all-night venues, galleries, clubs, shops, creation spaces, theatres, festivals, concert halls, bars, etc., with local legislation adapted to make all these activities possible.

The material result of this project is the international electronic music and mixed media festival featuring artists from Berlin and Barcelona, which will run for the fifth consecutive year this November in Barcelona as Antic Goes Electric Vol. V.

This year and for the first time, thanks to the support of the Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Instituto Ramon Llull of Barcelona, the festival will also take place in Berlin. On September 21st and 22nd seven Barcelona artists will join Berlin artists to create the B2B Festival programme at the Gretchen Club, one of the best-known venues in the Kreuzberg area – an opportunity for experimental music from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands to reach international audiences. The B2B project is supported in Berlin by Piatto Forte, a music shop and venue that also functions as a platform for happenings, performances and live acts. It is managed by DJ Baroxmix, Michele d’Alessio, musician and well-known DJ at many European clubs, and committed backer of anti-conventional electronic music.

DJ J.A.P.O. (BLN)

DJ Set

Born in Udine (Italy) in 1968, by the mid-80s he was drummer in a hardcore punk band Tomahawk.

In the late 80s he began his career as MC and Selecter, spinning hiphop, funk, dub, jungle d'n'b vinyls.

In 1991 he founded one of the most important miltant rap-crossover bands in Italy: Ariadigolpe.

As frontman and militant rapper, writing furious rhymes about Berlusconi's growing Regime, he released 2 albums, a 7" live EP and various compliations as well as performing at hundreds of concerts all around Italy, in Switzerland and in Slovenia. Ariadigolpe played in all the most important Social Centres, squats, events and venues, as headliners or supporting other great Italian and international bands such as 99 Posse, Assalti Frontali, Casino Royale, Murphys Law and CPS, to mention just a few.

In 1997 he left the band to focus on his other passion: photography. In the summer of 1999, Japo left Udine for Berlin, the Mecca for artists and avant-garde musicians. Alongside his work as a photographer, he has developed his career as a DJ playing in many venues, mostly alternative spaces and underground clubs in Berlin, Italy and London (Eimer, Escschloraque, Kulturfabrik, Yaam, Rototm Sunsplash, SO36, RoterSalon, 1001, Farbfernseher, Far East Film Festival and many more).

As a DJ, JAPO's musical spectrum is very eclectic: from 50s/60s jazz (to which he was introduced by his father) to 70s/80s reggae & dub, 70s funk to afrobeat, from 80s hardcore, wave & punk to traditional workers’ and political chanson, through diffrent forms of contemporary music like hiphop-rap, jungle, electronica (the first tape he bought was THE MAN MACHINE by Kraftwerk, 1978) and minimal-tech-house.

JAPO's djsets reflect this open musical view, sometimes as a patchwork, sometimes straightforwardly in one genre, but everytime refined and to the point.
