B2B Festival - Barcelona to Berlín

International electronic music and mixed media festival featuring artists from Berlin and Barcelona

What is the B2B Festival – Barcelona <> Berlin?
The B2B project ‘B2B Festival – Berlin to Barcelona’ first emerged in 2008. It was conceived both as a platform for music groups and artists working with new technologies to show their work, and as a means for two multidisciplinary art venues, Piatto Forte in Berlin and Antic Teatre in Barcelona, to realise and produce various projects.
Support is given to artists of all ages: they may be emerging and unknown, or have long-running careers, but they share a difficulty in finding outlets for their work on existing, conventional music circuits and festivals. Each artist develops his or her own line in research on sounds, programmes, video creation, and so on, working outside commercial and established parameters. We select live acts and DJ sets in experimental music, dance, Electro, Electro-punk and visual arts in order to give these artists visibility and establish a regular exchange between the two cities.

Why Berlin?
Because Berlin is happening. At the moment, Berlin is the most dynamic and lively city with regard to all art sectors. Artists in Berlin have a wealth of possibilities for realising and exhibiting their work that is way above what is available in any other European city. Also, Berlin is still economically accessible to artists of all social backgrounds. The city is full of all-night venues, galleries, clubs, shops, creation spaces, theatres, festivals, concert halls, bars, etc., with local legislation adapted to make all these activities possible.

The material result of this project is the international electronic music and mixed media festival featuring artists from Berlin and Barcelona, which will run for the fifth consecutive year this November in Barcelona as Antic Goes Electric Vol. V.

This year and for the first time, thanks to the support of the Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Instituto Ramon Llull of Barcelona, the festival will also take place in Berlin. On September 21st and 22nd seven Barcelona artists will join Berlin artists to create the B2B Festival programme at the Gretchen Club, one of the best-known venues in the Kreuzberg area – an opportunity for experimental music from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands to reach international audiences. The B2B project is supported in Berlin by Piatto Forte, a music shop and venue that also functions as a platform for happenings, performances and live acts. It is managed by DJ Baroxmix, Michele d’Alessio, musician and well-known DJ at many European clubs, and committed backer of anti-conventional electronic music.

ELLE P. (BCN)

Live

Mixed media artist and vocalist-dance performer

An artistic background and numerous live performances frame the skills of this remarkable vocal performer covering a wide range of musical styles, whose lyrics can flirt as easily with Dadaism as with profound poetry, edgy and experimental productions to appear dotted with edgy Grace Jones/Nina Hagen/Lene Lovich-esque references with light elements of a late Trish Keenan lifted by Elle P.'s unassuming singing that carries her melody lines like a kiss blown across a great lake.

Elle P.' s unique and diverse singing style has been used on experimental music productions as well as in many collaborations and performances with respected artists. With Iftah Gabbai, one-half the Berlin based, bpitch cult live act Skinnerbox, she forms the duo Elle P. & Iftah. In 2010 they released an outstanding EP called 'Sick Liar/Pink Painter' on Tiefschwarz's Souvenir Records which was remixed by dOP and Ruede Hagelstein. The latter remix was chosen by Sven Väth to open his Sounds of the Eleventh Season Compilation.

In 2011, within 12 days the duo composed, wrote and recorded 12 songs and
released their 238-tascam tape-recorded album called 'Mrs. Oscillator & her Pocket
Calculator'
on an MC →, which was celebrated in music magazines like De:bug Magazine 'brilliant idiosyncratic pop', in the February issue of the German-language Rolling Stone Magazine ('Great songs, presented with charm!'), and by the UK press as 'earthy edgy and full of bountiful imagination rising above the morass to make the difference by adding verve and personality to a lovely mixture of electro pop vignettes ranging from speedy dance ditties to beautiful atmospheric music and some pretty decent songwriting'. The Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape blog, which features the best new talents from around the world, announced them as the new artists to watch.

Elle P.'s next output is planned for autumn and winter of 2012, including, among others, a project of Elle P. & Ruede Hagelstein and the second album by Elle P. & Iftah. Furthermore, she’ll be featured in a brand new German TV documentary about contemporary artists.

THE FAKE DRUIDS (BCN)

Live

Bass and vocals: H.Tres
Drums and vocals: D. Blake

The title of this first release by the Fake Druids refers directly to a still from the 1973 Orson Welles film F for Fake. At the beginning of this labyrinthine documentary on fraud and fakery, the director warns us, using white headlines on black, that during the following hour everything shown on the screen is based strictly on real events. The film, nevertheless, lasts 90 minutes, which allows Welles to lie at leisure for the last half hour of the projection.
By explicitly guaranteeing with this same sentence (adapted to the new product) the authenticity of its content, the Fake Druids manage to make us consider the opposite. What is true in what they maintain and explain?

The Fake Druids are a duet playing bass, drums and vocals making straightforward and unadorned rock music in English. The band, which formed at the end of 2011, shows a marked essentialism in this their first work. Each and every track on the disc appears to be ruled by a certain dogma:
1 – effective simplicity in composition and maximum power in sound.
2 – use of both instruments limited to a very specific and unchanging,
overwhelming sound.
3 – no more than two vocals, which they can perform live.

MUTFAK DRT (BLN)

Live

MUTFAK DRT is a dirty, unwashed bastard. An electropunkghettotechmetalrap bastard, to be precise. Underscored with dance rhythms from Clubkulture and overlaid with guitar samples from the 80s. A supergroup composed of Jammin Unit (Air Liquide, Serious Dropout) Beatbox Eliot, DJ Gaucho and Yaneq (Radio Arty – Flux FM, Stauts Yo!) on the mic.

Born in 2008 from a spontaneous jam session in a sweaty Hamburg Club, continued on stage at the Volksbühne in Berlin Insane and hunted at the Party Artys (Club 103, Ritterbutzke), MUTFAK DRT is above all a live club act that rejects common clichés and celebrates with force. Loud and in-your-face. There are songs, but they are played anew at each concert. No arrangement stays the same.

The name of the band is Turkish for The Kitchen Four – at least to some. It fits, because the four mix together what goes together but has never been put together quite like that. MUTFAK DRT is acoustic haute cuisine. Postretropunk for gourmets and for those who just want to party.

DJ SAMU (BLN)

DJ Set

Moving from Berlin to Barcelona, from clubs to basements, bars to yards, dj Samu always performs a “back into groove” dj set with his sophisticated mix of electro, funk, disco, dub, new-disco, downbeats, hip hop and soulful tunes. In the attempt to put together the music influences of electro Berlin and Latin Barcelona of the past 10 years, he manages to create every time a fusion of all these genres and sounds, that not only has a red thread running all through the set, but also builds a positive tension on the dance floor and produces a coherent musical narrative.

Party dj and rare vinyl junkee since he was a boy, Samu started doing music in the early 2000s, getting in contact with the most exciting aspects of Berlin’s underground scene. He moved for a while to Barcelona, discovering the Latin-groovy side of the Mediterranean city and working together with the labels Sambafrique and Okayplay. Once he came back to Berlin, Samu started djing around the Piatto Forte crew. In 2008 he founded the Party „Mo`Better Funk!“ in an abandoned Hotel in Kreuzberg: the project grew, getting more and more visibility thanks to collaboration with important djs like Nickodemus, The Ivory Boy and the Peanuts. He also started the Disco-Blog-Projekt „Mybach.disco“ as a city music platform, which aims to become a melting pot for the new disco cultures around Kreuzberg and Neukoelln.

DJ BAROXMIX (BLN)

While on tour in Germany he visited Berlin for the first time; later, he decided to relocate there. Living in Berlin and later in New York City inspired a new approach to music, and he experimented with styles like hip hop, trip hop, and more recently Disco. Barox doesn’t consider himself a computer kid and you can easily hear this in his set. His old punk influences are reflected in the music he plays. He made a name for himself as DJ, producer and promoter, organising a variety of music events.

DJ Baroxmix has appeared internationally at a variety of clubs, such as Gargoyle Mechanique and Sunday Club Knitting Factory in New York City, and Garage in San Francisco; as well as clubs in Tokyo, Singapore, Capetown and in numerous European cities.

Releases: DNS 2000 - live at Maria, Electric Royalty compilation on Duplikat Records. CD(001) Tutti Felici maxi single - Baroxmix feat. Krozome131, vinyl on Duplikat records. Piatto forte vol.2 is a new project that will include a double cd compilation featuring bands from Barcelona and Berlin, to be released in 2013.

A variety of influences assimilated are reflected in the eclectic DJ sets, which include disco, downtempo, lounge music funky electro beats, re edits and Italian disco. Together with Marek Barath he started DUPLIKAT RECORDS (2003).
A year later he opened a record store named Piatto Forte, which became a sort of melting pot for local musicians and newcomers in Berlin offering live performances inside the shop, creating a platform for different artists and extending the network with the aim to promote and improve underground and experimental music. It wasn't by chance that years later he became involved with a theatre from Barcelona called Antic Teatre and since 2007 he's been organising a Festival linking the 2 Cities better known as B2B.

DJ J.A.P.O. (BLN)

DJ Set

Born in Udine (Italy) in 1968, by the mid-80s he was drummer in a hardcore punk band Tomahawk.

In the late 80s he began his career as MC and Selecter, spinning hiphop, funk, dub, jungle d'n'b vinyls.

In 1991 he founded one of the most important miltant rap-crossover bands in Italy: Ariadigolpe.

As frontman and militant rapper, writing furious rhymes about Berlusconi's growing Regime, he released 2 albums, a 7" live EP and various compliations as well as performing at hundreds of concerts all around Italy, in Switzerland and in Slovenia. Ariadigolpe played in all the most important Social Centres, squats, events and venues, as headliners or supporting other great Italian and international bands such as 99 Posse, Assalti Frontali, Casino Royale, Murphys Law and CPS, to mention just a few.

In 1997 he left the band to focus on his other passion: photography. In the summer of 1999, Japo left Udine for Berlin, the Mecca for artists and avant-garde musicians. Alongside his work as a photographer, he has developed his career as a DJ playing in many venues, mostly alternative spaces and underground clubs in Berlin, Italy and London (Eimer, Escschloraque, Kulturfabrik, Yaam, Rototm Sunsplash, SO36, RoterSalon, 1001, Farbfernseher, Far East Film Festival and many more).

As a DJ, JAPO's musical spectrum is very eclectic: from 50s/60s jazz (to which he was introduced by his father) to 70s/80s reggae & dub, 70s funk to afrobeat, from 80s hardcore, wave & punk to traditional workers’ and political chanson, through diffrent forms of contemporary music like hiphop-rap, jungle, electronica (the first tape he bought was THE MAN MACHINE by Kraftwerk, 1978) and minimal-tech-house.

JAPO's djsets reflect this open musical view, sometimes as a patchwork, sometimes straightforwardly in one genre, but everytime refined and to the point.

MISS Q. (BCN)

Live

Voice, Proben, Gitarre, Keyboards: Miss Q

CARLAZZ (BCN)

Reactable Live

Performer/Dj: Carles López

Reactable emerged from the idea of making music with a PC without just using keyboard and mouse. The result is a tactile table on which the performer creates sound, placing objects on the surface, manipulating and interconnecting them – a new way of making, understanding and experiencing music.

By using a single instrument to perform an entire concert, a particularly intimate connection is forged. Carles has been travelling with only his table for some time, learning, teaching, creating a language; no two concerts are the same… Carles vs Reactable.

Carles López aka Carlazz
Barcelona-born musician, producer and DJ Carlazz has performed in over 40 countries at all kinds of events including clubs and festivals: Sónar (Barcelona, New York), Sziget Festival-(Budapest), Ars Electronica (Linz), Microwave Festival (Hong Kong), Big Day Out (Sydney), Red Bull Academy (Oporto), Ushuaia Beach Club (Ibiza) and at the MTV Awards / EMA Europe 2011 (Belfast). He has composed music for Alejandro González Iñarritu (Babel, Amores Perros), Sol Picó Cía de Danza, Marcel.li Antúnez and Sergi Faustino.

He is part of Reactable Systems, working on the development of Reactable and, as its main musician, performing on the instrument all over the world.

ELECTRO PFAND (BCN)

DJ Set

Negom & Vinilette

Stay tuned for our future!

DICK & FETT (BLN)

DJ Set

Behind the Kreuzberg Duo "Dick&Fett" are two internationally still unknown music-heads, Taras Breker and Tobias Pieper.

Through his well-off parents Tobias was already granted access to the world of music at the age of four. Ever since then various hours at the music school have been part of his strictly humanist education. Although talented on many instruments, his true passion lies in playing the guitar.

Taras, on the other hand, growing up on a less straight track, came in contact with electronic music rather early. Coming from a hippie background he let himself fall into the soft and spacious open-air sounds by the tender age of ten.

In 2009 the two decided to pool their talents and since then have become the resident-crew of "Farbfernseher", responsible for the musical programme and the growing hype. They have been throwing their successful parties ever since and have become an institution of the local Berlin Scene.

NICO BAIXAS (BCN)

Ciromorphic Interactive Multimedia Performance

In my creative process, I started getting interested on the hands. Then, I discovered that one of their functions was to generate shapes and I decided to develop this facet until its limits, capturing and cataloguing more than one thousand postures that I organized in family's. This could be considered like an alphabet in which the letters would be the hand figures. Then, to continue developing the work, I designed and developed a multimedia system that allowed me to conjugate this letters to create words or sentences. This system, also allowed me to paint using this shapes, and many other things. As you can see, as my work evolved, it began to seem like a language. Right now, I'm in the point where i start to use this language in different ways, and in this performance I intend to continue developing it but this time with the body.

After having presented this manual sculpture-like development, I now use a multimedia system with projections which allows me to show how I structure the work, add images and modify parameters of space so that my hands get multiplied, generating more complex structures. This system is interactive; it is controlled by voice and can also be synchronized with music and pre-recorded image projections

Performer and Multimedia Artist. His pieces combine elements and ideas which belong to the fields of performance, plastic, multimedia or visual arts. He has a solid experience as an actor. He belonged to the companies General Eléctrica, Carnicería Teatro (Rodrigo García). He has also collaborated with Marcelí Antúnez, Ojos de Brujo, Federic Amat, Joan Baixas o Sonia Gómez amongst others. He has toured on his own with a show that his mother created wich whas interpreted only with his hands. As well as working as an actor in cinema, he has also worked as a Scriptwriter and an editor in New York and Barcelona.

MADEMOISELLE OUI OUI (BCN)

Visual

Real-time creation and experimentation with images taken from found footage and self-made material, previously edited using digital and photochemical processes, re-mixed live following various artistic styles. The result is a visual derivé of atmospheric, suggestive landscapes, abstract and concrete images which are full of colour, dirt and irony.
Snippets of everyday life randomly sequenced, juxtaposition of planes and repetitions create a frantic, experimental, extremely Vertovian montage. The original meanings of the images are distorted by a détournement to create a new, ecstatic, cathartic universe, delivering the viewer to an artificial state where his neurosphere will be constantly challenged by a continuous, self-renovating Moebius strip of meaning. I would define my mise-en-scene as an audio-visual performance that plays with the laws of entropy and randomness, generating a plastic discourse that reinterprets the world that surrounds us and, like a system of rhizomes, diversifies chaos, opening the doors of poetic irrationality.

Mademoiselle Oui Oui is the pseudonym of multidisciplinary artist, philosopher, actress and visual artist from Barcelona, Carolina Cabrerizo. Her work is a voyage during which she carves out emotions using images. She has worked making videos for various artists such as Zink Tank collective or singer Miss Q to whose live performances she brings her visual creations. Her works have been exhibited at festivals such as Minimadelia Design Circus (Madrid) and El Globo de Juan (Braga, Portugal). She collaborates with theatre company La Viuda creating and presenting videos. She has performed at venues such as Antic Teatre, BeGood, Discos Paradiso, Niu, Miscelanea, Karriere Bar (Copenhagen) and Madame Claude (Berlin).

She is currently developing her own project "el Ser y el Otro" produced by Producciones Instantáneas.
